Dr Ashutosh Sayana, Principal ,GDMC , Dehradun said that Glaucoma blindness is preventable but we need to stress a routine screening of all people above 40 Years. He also informed us that we have all the equipment for medical and surgical management of Glaucoma.<br \/>\nProf. Dr Daulat Singh, Professor and HOD Radiation Oncology , said that with the help of public awareness we can decrease blindness due to glaucoma.<br \/>\nProf. Dr Yusuf Rizvi, HOD Ophthalmology , said that with newer screening tools and equipment the diagnosis can be made early but patients have to come to Hospital and visit only an ophthalmologist as it is a serious condition and need to be treated as early as possible.<br \/>\nDr. Shanti Pandey, Professor,Ophthalmology said that there is a need to create awareness about glaucoma and as it is a silent killer therefore it needs to be treated and diagnosed as soon as possible. Mam also informed that this condition can be seen in newborn and young age also.<br \/>\nDr Sushil Ojha , Associate Professor , Ophthalmology, said that Glaucoma is now the second most common cause of Blindness. Its blindness is basically progressive loss of visual field rather than vision loss. If diagnosed early the progression in the form of increasing visual field loss can be prevented. The newer curriculum of MBBS also focuses on Preventive medicine as with this outreach to the public is exponentially higher compared to curative medicine.<br \/>\nDr Neeraj Saraswat, Assistant Professor , Ophthalmology said that vision loss in Glaucoma is silent as central vision remains preserved till the last stage .<br \/>\nDr dushyant uphadhay , Assistant Professor ,Ophthalmology focused on diagnosing the patient in the early stage and treating it as soon as possible.<\/p>\n<p>Dr Kaniskh joshi (senior resident , Ophthalmology ) , Dr Nitesh kumar (PG JR 1) , Dr Gaurav kumar (PG JR 1), Dr Divya khanduri (PG JR 1) were also present at the week actively conducting the investigation and diagnosing the glaucoma patient.<br \/>\nDr Kanishk Joshi thanked all doctors, public and MBBS students for their participation in the Glaucoma awareness week.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Dehradun.\u00a0 \u00a0Department of Ophthalmology at Government Doon Medical College and hospital ,Dehradun conducted \u201cWorld Glaucoma Week 12th to 18th March 2023\u201d with awareness program was conducted in EYE OPD.
