Dehradun. Chief Secretary Smt. Radha Raturi on Thursday gave an update on the Chardham Yatra to Union Home Secretary Shri Ajay Kumar Bhalla in a virtual meeting. The Union Home Secretary has directed the Chief Secretary to send a report of pilgrims at the Dhams, yatra routes and holding places to the Home Ministry every day. He has also directed to take the help of NDRF and ITBP for crowd management on the yatra route if needed. Along with this, the Union Home Secretary has directed to constitute a committee for the strategy of Chardham Yatra management in future. He has laid special emphasis on strict monitoring of yatra management at the ground level.
Chief Secretary Smt. Raturi informed the Union Home Secretary that the Chardham Yatra is being conducted successfully, safely and smoothly in the state. All the states, especially the 5 major states Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Gujarat and Maharashtra, from where most of the pilgrims come to Chardham, their Chief Secretaries have been requested through letters and personal talks that pilgrims should come to Chardham only after registration and come for Chardham Yatra on the date for which registration has been done. To maintain the order, offline registration of Chardham Yatra has been banned till 31 May.
Giving information about the Yatra Management System, CS informed that a 24-hour call center operated by Uttarakhand Tourism Development Board is working for registration. Registered pilgrims are being checked at Barkot (Yamunotri), Heena (Gangotri), Sonprayag (Kedarnath) and Pandukeshwar (Badrinath). Tokens are being issued to registered devotees for visiting the tamples at Janki Chatti (Yamunotri), Gangotri Temple (Gangotri), Swargarohini (Kedarnath) and ISBT, BRO and Mana (Badrinath). Arrangements have been made for devotees standing in queues in the temple premises to visit the holy places by stamping their tokens.
The Chief Secretary informed that out of a total of 3118926 registrations till May 22, 486285 devotees have registered for Yamunotri, 554656 for Gangotri, 1037700 for Kedarnath, 955858 for Badrinath and 84427 for Hemkund Sahib. The 10 states with the highest number of devotees coming on Chardham Yatra are Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Rajasthan, Delhi, Bihar, Haryana, West Bengal and Chhattisgarh respectively.
The Chief Secretary informed that this year in 2024, 138537 devotees visited Yamunotri in the first 10 days of the Yatra season. This figure is 127 percent more than the last 2 years. 128777 devotees visited Gangotri Dham in the first ten days, which is 89 percent more than the last 2 years. This year 319193 devotees visited Kedarnath Dham in the first ten days which is 156 percent more than the last 2 years. Similarly, this year 139656 devotees visited Badrinath Dham in the first ten days which is 27 percent more than the last 2 years.
Special initiative of Transport Department
Chief Secretary Smt Radha Raturi informed that for the smooth conduct of Char Dham Yatra this year, the Transport Department has made arrangements for capacity building and medical screening of drivers. Four high-tech check posts have been set up at the main entry points of the Yatra route. Shuttle service has been arranged on Sonprayag and Gaurikund route. Green card has been arranged through online system. So far 23063 green cards have been issued. Trip cards are being issued to the passengers registered on the tourism portal.
New efforts of Police Department
Chief Secretary Smt Radha Raturi informed that this year 56 tourism police support centers have been opened by the Police Department on the Yatra route. 850 CCTV cameras and 8 drones have been installed to monitor the Yatra. 20 parking points with a capacity of 1495 vehicles have been set up on the Kedarnath Dham Yatra route. QR code based system has been started for parking management. 3-4 holding points have been made for controlled movement of vehicles on Yamunotri and Gangotri Yatra route. Sector magistrates have been deployed for better traffic management on Kedarnath route. 657 Paryawaran Mitra have been deployed for cleaning the track route.
Health department is also pro active
This year, under special efforts, 50 screening kiosks have been installed at 12 main locations by the Health Department. Swasthya Mitras, who are first medical responders, have also been deployed on the Yatra route. 156 ambulances have been deployed on the Yatra route. 8 blood banks and 2 storage units have also been made available. 49 permanent health facilities and 26 medical relief posts have been established. 22 specialists, 179 medical officers and 299 paramedical staff have also been deployed on the Yatra route.
Chief Secretary Smt. Radha Raturi said that at present the administration is focusing on traffic management on the Yatra route. The traffic situation is being strictly monitored with CCTV and drones. Attention is being paid to strict adherence to the registration and token system. Special focus is being given on helping the elderly, disabled, sick and children.
The Union Home Secretary assured all possible help and cooperation from the Centre for the successful conduct of the Char Dham Yatra in Uttarakhand.
Director General of Police Shri Abhinav Kumar, Secretary Shri Shailesh Bagauli, Shri Sachin Kurve, Shri Dilip Jawalkar, Shri Arvind Singh Hayanki were present in the meeting.
