Dehradun. Celebration was in the air, with the yellow sun rays showering blessings on St. Jude’s School. The Theme for our Silver Jubilee Sports Day was it is Celebration Time – Let us celebrate. Our four Houses enclosures were decked up with mutli-coloured decorations. The athletes in their sports kits and the marching squads in enviable crisp white and house shirts and cravats lined up before the arrival of the Chief Guest.

The Chief Guest Lt. General Girist Kumar, VSM, Surveyor General, Survey of India declared the meet open. The occasion was graced by our Founder President and Principal, St. Thomas’ College, Mr. R.V. Gardner, our School Principal Mrs. V.R. Gardner, Mr. G.I.G. Mann, MLA, Uttarakhand and Principal, Carman School, Dalanwala, Col. A.K. Pundir, Principal, Constancia School, Mr. D. Hilton, Principal, Hilton’s School, Mr. P.S. Kalra, Principal, Guru Nanank Academy and other esteemed guest.

A grand carnival by the students of Classes III – XII walked past holding banners and placards to the tunes of ‘Power of the Dream’, depicting celebrations from 1994 to 2019. The Carnival was a beautiful sight depicting the changing fashions, festivals, achievements of ISRO, the models, aircraft and the students dressed thematically proved to be the chief attractions of the day.  Following this, the school marched to the drumbeat, synchronized in steps and spirit. The marching squads were closely watched by an esteemed panel of judges.  Contributing to the Silver Jubilee celebration, classes III, IV & V joined in.

A colourful PT display was on show by Class III, welcoming one and all. Holding vibrant props in their hands, students of classes IV & V put up a drill to the tune of Shine Like a Diamond by Rihaana, enthralling the audience with various complex formations. A perfect coordination between mind and spirit through a Yoga display – ‘The Evolution of the Earth’ was a magnificent sight to behold. Each one of us should strive to lead a balanced life.

The event comprised a number of races such as 100m, 200m, 4x100m and mixed shuttle relay to test the grit and determination of the young athletes. The invitational relay witnessed students of various prestigious institutions like Carman School, Dalanwala, St. Thomas’ College and Hilton’s School participating with commendable vigour and enthusiasm.

The meet ran smoothly like a medley of well-planned racing events and peppy drills. Our PT Display with multi-coloured Dupattas and Pom-Poms by Classes VI to VIII added to the splendor of the event. The strength of the participating teams was tested in the most energetic Tug-of-War. Khanna House and Howard House battled for the first place in which Khanna House emerged powerful. This was followed by a Karate Display by students of Classes III – V.  Students showcased the self-defence techniques like blocking, blowing, punching and kicking.

The acrobatic formation of tiers in the Inter-House Pyramid by the students left the spectators mesmerized. They reminded us that there is no quick way to the top. Take one step at a time and eventually you will succeed. Howard House won the Pyramid Formation. The excitement increased ten folds with the Grand Pyramid by the four houses depicting the spirit of teamwork. Not only was the beginning of the 25th Sports Day spectacular but the conclusion of the events was also splendid. A Zumba presentation by the girls in their colourful attires regaled one and all. Students who had brought laurels to the School by their excellence and performances at the Inter School and District level ran on the track with a torch that was handed to our Principal, Mrs. V.R. Gardner, who with the Chief Guest took a memorable photograph. Last on the cards was the Prize Distribution.

In the 4×100 Inter School Mixed Relay race St. Jude’s School came first, followed by Carman School, Dalanwala. Even though each House put in a colossal effort Khanna House proudly lifted the Athletic Cup with a massive tally of medals.

The Chief Guest in his address gave a big thanks to all the children for their hardwork they put in and for their dedication towards their School. He wished them success and good luck for the future. He praised the discipline, innovation and creativity of the teachers and students and wished each one present a happy Deepavali. In conclusion a vote of thanks was proposed by Mrs. V.R.
